Punjab cracks down on substandard medicines: DRAP Issues medical alert

A major crackdown on counterfeit and substandard medicines is underway in Punjab, as the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has issued medical product alerts for seven unsafe pharmaceutical products.

According to the Punjab Drug Testing Laboratory, several Vitamin B12, antibiotics, and anti-allergy drugs manufactured by pharmaceutical companies in Lahore and Rawalpindi have been found to be substandard and adulterated.

The tested samples failed to meet quality standards. The flagged medicines include:

Methycobal Injection & Tablets

Neurocobal Injection

Mecolomine Tablet

Emikoron Antibiotic Injection

Sterile Water – Aqua P

Ortezan Tablet

Dorsap Antibiotic Drip

DRAP has directed authorities to tighten market surveillance and investigate the supply chain of these fake drugs. It has also ordered the immediate removal of all affected batches from pharmacies and medical outlets.
