Punjab Government Announces Major Relief for Wheat Farmers

LAHORE – In a significant move aimed at benefiting wheat farmers, the Punjab government has announced a major relief measure, allowing the free movement of wheat within and outside the province. This new policy will enable farmers to transport their wheat across provincial borders without any restrictions, providing them with the opportunity to sell their produce in more profitable markets.
For the first time, the private sector has been granted permission to procure wheat, which is expected to offer farmers a wider range of options for selling their crops. This step is anticipated to foster a more competitive market environment, potentially leading to better prices for the farmers.
The deregulation of the wheat market is expected to increase competition among buyers, which will, in turn, benefit farmers by providing them with better price options and improving overall market dynamics.
Earlier, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif presided over a high-level meeting to review the wheat procurement policy and assess the pre-harvest wheat production situation. During the meeting, she praised the farmers for achieving record-breaking wheat production in the province and expressed her sincere appreciation for their hard work and dedication.
