Punjab Government launches major forest project to combat smog in Lahore

The Punjab government has launched a massive tree-planting initiative to tackle Lahore’s rising air pollution and smog crisis. The project will cover 978 acres across the city and aim to provide cleaner air and fresh oxygen for residents.
As part of this effort, a green belt is being developed along River Ravi, where 634,000 trees will be planted. So far, 144 acres have been covered, with 105,000 trees already in place.
Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb highlighted the project as a major step towards fighting pollution and ensuring a healthier environment for future generations.
This initiative, led by the Punjab Department of Forests and the Lahore Development Authority (RODA), also encourages public participation.
