Lahore: In a landmark move to address growing environmental concerns, the Punjab government has launched its first Environment Protection Force (EPF), aimed at combating pollution and safeguarding the environment across the province.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz officiated the passingout ceremony of the newly formed force, marking a significant step in the province’s commitment to environmental sustainability. The event was also attended by Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb and Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari.

During the ceremony, a flag hoisting took place, and the EPF’s vigilance squad presented a formal salute to the chief minister, symbolizing the beginning of their official duties.

Speaking at the event, Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb emphasized that the formation of the EPF was a long-overdue initiative. “This force is a reflection of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s serious commitment to environmental protection,” she said, adding that the government has prioritized environmental conservation from day one.

Aurangzeb also criticized past administrations for failing to address environmental issues, praising the current leadership for taking concrete steps toward a greener future. She commended the efforts of the Secretary of Environment and the Director General of the Environment Protection Agency (EPA), highlighting the importance of allocating proper resources to this critical sector.

“For the first time in Punjab’s history, a significant budget has been designated specifically for environmental conservation,” she stated, noting that the EPF is now equipped with modern tools and technology to carry out its duties effectively.
