Punjab Launches Mobile Police Station

Lahore: The longstanding challenges in obtaining and renewing driving licences in Punjab have been addressed with the launch of the province’s first Mobile Police Station and Licensing Unit.

Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, formally inaugurated the project, which aims to bring police and licensing services directly to the public. During the launch ceremony, the CM toured the mobile unit, observed its operations, and interacted with the staff. She also handed over the vehicle keys to the concerned officials.

The Mobile Police Station will offer a range of services including registration of FIRs, issuance and renewal of driving licences—learner, regular, international, and women-specific licences. It is designed to serve people at their doorstep, especially women, students, and residents of remote areas.

Speaking at the event, CM Maryam Nawaz called the project a “revolutionary step” toward efficient public service delivery. She also instructed staff to maintain respectful and empathetic conduct while dealing with citizens.

Officials mentioned that the mobile units will also visit girls’ schools and colleges, as well as working women’s centers, to make licensing more accessible.

Over 23,000 Driving Licences Issued in a Day

Punjab Police reported that 23,779 driving licences were issued across the province in just 24 hours. Alongside, traffic police issued 37,236 challans, collecting over Rs21 million in fines for violations.

Additionally, 343 smoke-emitting vehicles were fined, and 29 were impounded. The Inspector General of Punjab Police has directed strict enforcement of traffic laws to enhance road safety and curb environmental pollution.

Currently, 127 driving training schools run by Punjab Police are providing driver education to promote a culture of safe and responsible driving throughout the province.
