Punjab Police Reject Allegations MPA

LAHORE – Punjab police on Saturday rejected allegations of torturing former PML-N MPA Sumera Komal at a local police station. Komal had claimed that police arrested her son outside their house without any charges. She said she and her husband were physically assaulted when they visited the station to secure his release. A video of the scuffle later circulated on social media, drawing public attention.

Komal also linked the incident to a previous case involving her other son, who died last month in a motorcycle accident. She suggested the police treated her family unfairly because of that earlier case. However, police officials strongly denied all such allegations and called them baseless. Authorities emphasized that no connection exists between the past accident and the recent arrest.

Police explained that Komal’s son, Arsalan, was arrested two days earlier during a raid at a snooker club. Twelve other people were also arrested at the club, which was allegedly involved in illegal gambling. Officials said the club and the arrested individuals were already linked to a previous gambling case. They added that Komal’s attempt to connect her son’s arrest to the earlier case was unfounded.

A police spokesperson further claimed that the former MPA and her husband misbehaved with law enforcement personnel at the station. The inquiry into the allegations, ordered by the DIG (Operations), was completed within 48 hours. The investigation found no evidence supporting Komal’s claims. Authorities reiterated that the law applies equally to everyone, regardless of status or influence.

The police maintained that their actions were in line with legal procedures and provincial directives. They urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement rather than spreading unverified claims. Officials stressed that attempts to pressure police through public statements or social media will not affect investigations. The case highlights ongoing efforts to ensure transparency and accountability in Punjab law enforcement.
