The Lahore Police have introduced an advanced artificial intelligence (AI) system to predict crimes and improve operational efficiency. This new software, called “Punjab Emergency AI,” has been developed by the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA). The AI will provide real-time alerts about high-risk areas for crimes such as robbery and theft. It will also identify accident-prone zones and other crime hotspots. The system aims to help police plan patrols and deploy officers more effectively.

DIG Operations Faisal Kamran said the AI technology will bring innovation and precision to Lahore Police work. He highlighted that this smart policing approach will improve how police respond to crime. Kamran expressed confidence that the AI system will make policing more effective and efficient in the city. The police hope the technology will reduce crime rates by acting proactively. This initiative marks a significant step forward in law enforcement methods.

Separately, a petition filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) has raised concerns about the Crime Control Department (CCD). The petitioner claimed that over 700 alleged encounters involving the CCD occurred in Punjab in seven months. The CCD is a special wing of Punjab Police created to combat serious and organized crime. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz established the department in February 2025. Since then, the CCD has reportedly killed dozens of suspects in alleged encounters.

LHC Chief Justice Aalia Neelum has taken notice of the petition and questioned the CCD’s role and actions. The court is now reviewing the legality and functioning of the department. This case has sparked a debate about police accountability and the use of force. The government faces pressure to ensure law enforcement respects human rights while fighting crime.

In conclusion, Lahore Police’s AI system aims to modernize crime prevention and patrol strategies. Meanwhile, the CCD controversy continues to draw public and judicial attention. Both developments reflect ongoing efforts to improve law enforcement in Punjab. The success of these measures will shape the future of policing in the region.
