Punjab to introduce QR code for online verification of weapon licences

The Punjab Home Department has directed the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to introduce QR codes for the online verification of weapon licences, aiming to enhance security and transparency.
A special meeting, chaired by Home Secretary Noorul Amin Mengal, was held to discuss the verification process. The meeting was attended by Special Home Secretary Fazlur Rehman, Additional Secretary Imran Hussain Ranjah, and officials from NADRA.
During the session, Mengal issued a one-week deadline for NADRA to implement QR codes on all weapon licences. Additionally, it was decided that all licences would be linked to the respective individual’s national ID card for streamlined authentication.
Commissioners and deputy commissioners across Punjab have also been instructed to ensure that QR codes are included in all official orders related to weapon licences.
Mengal emphasized that the updated verification system would help eliminate fake licences and improve oversight. He reiterated that individuals involved in serious crimes would not be eligible for weapon licences.
