Rawalpindi declares emergency as water shortage escalates

Rawalpindi is experiencing a severe water shortage due to the ongoing drought, prompting the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) to declare an emergency. The city’s daily water demand is 68 million gallons, but only 51 million gallons are available. With minimal rainfall expected in February and March, the crisis is set to worsen.
The groundwater levels and dam reserves are rapidly depleting, with the water table now at 700 feet. WASA has urged citizens to conserve water and is taking action against water wastage, including issuing fines.
Additionally, the cleaning of the Khanpur Dam will temporarily stop the water supply until February 22.
