SBP announces ban on pen-marked currency notes from July 2025

Author Avatar Web Desk | 1 month ago

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced that currency notes with any pen marks or handwritten text will no longer be accepted from July 1, 2025.

The central bank stated that such markings affect the appearance and integrity of banknotes. The move aims to ensure clean and high-quality currency remains in circulation.

Citizens have been advised to exchange any marked notes at SBP branches by June 30, 2025. After this deadline, pen-marked notes will no longer be valid for transactions.

It is common for shopkeepers and customers to write numbers or symbols on notes during counting — a practice that will now render the note unusable.
