Seventh Polio Case Confirmed in Pakistan This Year

The Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at the National Institute of Health (NIH) has confirmed a new polio case from District Torghar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This marks the second polio case reported from the province and the seventh case nationwide this year.

The confirmation comes at a crucial time as the second nationwide Polio Vaccination Campaign (NID) of 2025 is currently underway. The campaign, which began on April 21, aims to vaccinate 45.4 million children under the age of five across Pakistan. The vaccination effort will run until April 27 and will be followed by another nationwide campaign from May 26 to June 1.

District Torghar is included in both of these vital vaccination campaigns, alongside all other districts of the country. Authorities are urging parents to ensure their children receive multiple doses of the polio vaccine to protect them from the debilitating effects of the poliovirus.
