Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has visited Simly Dam and reviewed ongoing plans for its expansion, as part of efforts to improve water supply and develop recreational facilities in the Islamabad region.

During the visit, officials briefed the minister that Simly Dam currently provides around 40 percent of Islamabad’s water needs. He was informed about the technical aspects of the proposed expansion project, which aims to enhance water storage capacity and ensure a more reliable supply for the federal capital.

The interior minister directed authorities to prepare a feasible and comprehensive expansion plan at the earliest, emphasizing that the project should be designed in a way that guarantees sufficient water availability for the city’s growing population.

Mohsin Naqvi also inspected surrounding areas of the dam and stressed the importance of developing the site for recreational and tourism purposes. He noted that the region holds significant potential for water sports and other leisure activities, which could help boost local economic activity and create employment opportunities for nearby communities.

He added that the development of such facilities would not only improve public access to world-class recreational spaces but also contribute to the overall development of the area.

Officials present during the visit included the Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), the Inspector General of Islamabad Police, and other relevant authorities. They discussed infrastructure development, security arrangements, and long-term planning for the site.

The visit reflects growing government focus on improving water resource management while also promoting tourism and recreational infrastructure in and around Islamabad.
