Sindh government announces to provide EV scooters to women

The Sindh government has announced a lucky draw next month to distribute electric scooters (EV scooters) to women. In the first phase, 1,000 women will receive these eco-friendly vehicles, with all preparations already complete.
The decision was made during a transport department meeting chaired by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon. Progress updates were also shared on BRT Yellow Line and Red Line projects.
The Yellow Line project director said the critical section — Jam Sadiq Bridge — is being prioritized and may be completed before the September 2025 deadline. Construction of Depots 1 and 2 is also underway.
CEO of TransKarachi, Fawad Ghaffar Soomro, briefed the meeting about the BRT Red Line project.
Sharjeel Memon said EV scooters and EV taxis will not only generate employment but will also offer safe transport for women and help protect the environment. He added that work on the EV Taxi Project will begin in June 2025.
