Sindh Government Clarifies Qingqi Rickshaws Restrictions in Karachi

Karachi: Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Thursday clarified that the recent restrictions on Qingqi rickshaws in Karachi are limited in scope and are being implemented purely for administrative and security reasons.
Speaking at a press conference, Memon explained that the ban applies only to 11 major roads across the city and is not a blanket prohibition on Qingqi rickshaws throughout Karachi. He emphasised that the decision was made to manage traffic flow and enhance public safety in high-traffic zones.
“This is not a citywide ban,” he stated. “The restriction targets specific roads where congestion and safety concerns demand stricter regulation. Such measures are well within the legal jurisdiction of the Sindh government.”
Memon’s remarks came in response to a petition filed by the Qingqi Rickshaw Association in the Sindh High Court, challenging the move.
“The government has full authority to take administrative decisions in the interest of public order and urban planning,” the minister added.
