KARACHI: The Sindh Government has taken a significant step to support schoolchildren by launching the “School Meal Program”, aimed at providing free, nutritious meals to students in public schools located in underprivileged areas.

The initiative was officially inaugurated by Sindh Education Minister Sardar Ali Shah at Government Boys Primary School, Murad Memon. During the launch, the minister personally served food to students, highlighting the government’s commitment to improving educational outcomes through better nutrition.

This programme is a collaborative effort between the Sindh Education Department and the welfare organisation Allah Wale Trust. In its first phase, over 70,000 students will benefit from daily meals designed to meet their dietary needs.

Addressing the event, Minister Sardar Ali Shah emphasised that nutritional deficiencies negatively impact students’ academic performance. He termed the initiative a vital milestone for the healthy development of children. The minister also expressed concern over the alarming poverty rate in the country, noting that 42% of Pakistan’s population lives below the poverty line.
