KARACHI, August 1— The Sindh High Court has temporarily suspended the ombudsman’s decision against K-Electric CEO Moonis Alvi. The court took this step after a petition challenged the jurisdiction of the Provincial Ombudsman for Protection Against Harassment.

During the hearing, the court issued notices to the involved parties. It requested written responses from all sides within one week. At the same time, the court directed Moonis Alvi to deposit a penalty of Rs 2.5 million.

Barrister Abid Zuberi, representing Alvi, argued the ombudsman lacks jurisdiction in this case. He explained that K-Electric is an interprovincial entity. According to him, federal laws should apply instead of provincial rules.

He also pointed out that K-Electric operates beyond Sindh, including areas like Hub and Windar. This, he said, confirms it falls outside the scope of the provincial ombudsman’s authority. His arguments raised key questions about jurisdiction in cases involving large utilities.

Now, the court will proceed with the case after reviewing responses from all parties. The decision will help clarify legal boundaries for regulatory authorities dealing with national-level corporations.
