Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar has confirmed that Irfan Baloch died while in police custody. Irfan, a resident of Bahawalpur, was visiting Karachi for leisure when he was detained by the police. According to reports, he was subjected to severe torture while in custody, which led to his death. Lanjar has ordered a departmental inquiry and a judicial investigation into the incident.
The minister expressed serious concern over the custodial death of Irfan Baloch. He emphasized that a transparent investigation would be conducted into the matter. Lanjar instructed the Sindh home secretary to complete the inquiry within 15 days and assured that modern forensic techniques would be used to uncover the truth.
Lanjar also revealed that Irfan had been recording videos, which may have caused some misunderstanding. Authorities will examine whether the locations he filmed were sensitive or not. The home minister stated that the investigation would determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
While the forensic report is still pending, Lanjar stressed that no one involved in the death would be allowed to evade accountability. He assured the public that impartial investigations have been ordered and that both police and relevant agencies would thoroughly investigate the incident.
The case has raised concerns about police misconduct, and the home minister’s assurance of strict action has reassured many. Authorities are under pressure to ensure justice for Irfan Baloch, and the inquiry will aim to uncover the full details of his tragic death.

According to the Counter Crime Department (CCD) Chuhng, the suspects were being taken for further investigations. Police planned to arrest additional members of their gang. However, the operation did not go as expected and turned violent.
During the transfer, armed associates of the suspects ambushed the police team. They opened fire in an attempt to free them. The sudden attack created panic and forced police to respond quickly. The encounter took place on a busy route.
In the exchange of fire, the suspects Owais and Shehzad were fatally hit. They died at the spot before medical help arrived. Ironically, both were killed by bullets fired by their own accomplices. Police secured the area soon after.
