Sugar price surge: Government summons sugar mill owners and dealers to Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Production has summoned sugar mill owners and major dealers to Islamabad following a sharp increase in sugar prices during Ramadan 2025, sources revealed on Sunday.
According to sources, the meeting is scheduled for tomorrow, where officials will question stakeholders about the sudden price surge. The Ministry of Production stated that an earlier agreement with the Sugar Mills Association ensured that prices would remain stable in exchange for permission to export sugar.
However, despite this agreement, sugar prices skyrocketed to Rs170 per kilogram after the export, prompting the government to take action.
Authorities have also compiled a list of market manipulators, and efforts are underway to identify and hold those responsible accountable.
