Suicide blast in Bannu kills five, injures several

A suicide car bomb attack targeted the Domel Police Station in Bannu, resulting in the deaths of at least five civilians and injuries to 13 others, including a police officer. The incident has once again highlighted the growing security concerns in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to initial reports, an explosives-laden vehicle rammed into the rear side of the police station. This triggered a powerful explosion, followed by an exchange of gunfire. The blast was so intense that it was heard several miles away.
Among the victims were four members of the same family, including a husband, wife, daughter and son. Authorities said the explosion destroyed the police station’s sentry post and caused severe structural damage to the building. In addition, nearby houses were badly affected, with some collapsing and trapping residents under the debris.

Rescue 1122 teams responded quickly and shifted the injured to nearby hospitals. Officials confirmed that several of the injured are in critical condition. District Emergency Officer Bakhtullah Wazir stated that rescue operations are ongoing and will continue until all affected areas are cleared.
However, continuous rainfall created difficulties for rescue teams during the operation. Despite these challenges, local residents also joined the efforts. Announcements were made in mosques to request blood donations and support for the victims.
Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a clearance operation to ensure safety and gather further details. Authorities are also investigating the nature of the attack.
Bannu has witnessed repeated incidents of violence in recent months. Experts note a broader rise in militant activity across the province, raising concerns about security and public safety in the region.
