LAHORE: The water level in the Sutlej River continues to rise after India released more water into the river. Officials confirmed the latest discharge on Wednesday. This move has led to a medium-level flood at Ganda Singh Wala headworks. The Flood Forecasting Division (FFD) reported a sudden surge in water flow.

Before the release, the river had a flow of 28,000 cusecs. After India’s discharge, it jumped to 115,000 cusecs. The rapid increase caused flooding in several upstream and downstream villages. At least 15 villages have lost land access due to the flood. The situation remains tense as water levels keep rising.

The Director General of Punjab’s Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) warned of more challenges ahead. He said Punjab could receive more rainfall soon. Flooding is also expected in the catchment areas of rivers. He added that India might release more water into Sutlej and Chenab rivers.

Additionally, India may discharge up to 35,000 cusecs of water into the Ravi River. Officials are closely monitoring the situation. Emergency plans are being prepared in flood-prone areas. The PDMA urged residents to stay alert and follow safety advisories.

This year’s monsoon has already caused massive damage in Punjab. Heavy rains and water releases from India worsened the crisis. Floodwaters damaged homes, crops, and infrastructure. Authorities continue relief efforts to support affected communities. More updates are expected as the situation develops.
