Swat Tragedy: Salman Akram Raja Defends KP Government

Author Avatar Web Desk | 4 weeks ago

Islamabad: PTI leader Barrister Salman Akram Raja has absolved the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government of responsibility for the Swat flood tragedy, calling it a “natural calamity.”

Speaking to the media, he said, “If a natural disaster strikes, what can the government do? “It’s not Superman that can respond instantly.” He termed the incident deeply unfortunate but beyond the government’s control.

The tragedy occurred when 18 people, out for a picnic near the River Swat, were swept away by a flash flood. Twelve bodies have been recovered so far. Eyewitnesses claim the families waited over an hour for help, but no official rescue arrived.

Following public outrage, KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur suspended TMO Khwazakhela, Zahidullah, for sending victims’ coffins in a garbage truck.
