Former Prime Minister and Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, has acknowledged that the current government has successfully stabilized Pakistan’s economy, which was on the brink of collapse during his tenure. Speaking to journalists during his appearance at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, Khan admitted that while the country’s economy has found some stability, it is still far from experiencing full recovery and growth.

Responding to a question from a reporter about whether he accepted that the economy had been saved from default, Khan said, “Yes, the economy has been stabilized, but it is only to a certain extent. The real challenge now lies in initiating developmental projects and ensuring further strengthening of the economy.”

Khan’s comments came as a delegation from PTI’s negotiation committee, including key party figures such as Ali Amin Gandapur, Asad Qaiser, Omar Ayub, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, and Raja Nasser Abbas, visited him at Adiala Jail. The delegation met with Khan to discuss ongoing political matters and the party’s future strategy.

While Khan recognized the steps taken by the current administration to prevent an economic disaster, his remarks reflect a growing concern within his party that more comprehensive reforms are required to put Pakistan on a path of sustainable growth.

Khan, who led Pakistan from 2018 to 2022, has faced numerous legal challenges since being ousted from office earlier this year. However, his acknowledgment of the economic stability provided by the government highlights a pragmatic approach amid ongoing political tensions. The PTI continues to push for early elections, with the party leadership seeking greater influence in the country’s decision-making process.
