Traditional Emirati Welcome for Trump: “Al-Ayyala” Dance Captivates the World

Abu Dhabi: During former U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent visit to the United Arab Emirates, he was welcomed at Qasr Al Watan with the traditional Emirati cultural performance known as “Al-Ayyala”. In a striking visual display, women performed a traditional hair-swaying dance as part of the ceremony.
The scene quickly went viral on social media, drawing global attention and fascination. “Al-Ayyala” is a cultural folk dance of the UAE and northern Oman, typically performed at weddings and celebrations and to honour distinguished guests. In this dance, men line up with bamboo sticks, while women perform synchronised movements with their hair to the beat of drums.
Recognised by UNESCO as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, the inclusion of “Al-Ayyala” in Trump’s welcome highlighted the richness and hospitality of Gulf traditions on an international stage.
