Washington: President Donald Trump concluded meetings with the Ukrainian president and European leaders on August 19, 2025. During the session, Trump paused discussions to hold a 40-minute phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to media reports, Putin told Trump he was ready to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Sources said the meeting could take place by the end of August. Both sides expressed cautious optimism about direct talks.

Trump told participants that he was determined to stop the Russia-Ukraine war. He said the United States, Russia, and Ukraine should work together for peace. He emphasised cooperation as the only way to reach lasting solutions.

Putin reportedly accepted Ukraine’s security guarantees in principle. Trump stressed that all sides shared one goal: ending the war quickly. He added that immediate ceasefire efforts should remain a top priority.

Trump also reminded leaders that he had already helped end six conflicts. He said peace between Russia and Ukraine would not be easy. However, he insisted that both Putin and Zelensky wanted the war to stop, and he mentioned a possible three-way meeting.

Meanwhile, Ukraine welcomed Trump’s diplomatic push and agreed to participate in trilateral talks. But Russia rejected NATO-style security guarantees for Ukraine. Moscow’s foreign ministry stated it would not accept NATO troops stationed in Ukraine.
