Trump and Xi Meet After Six Years in Busan, Discuss Trade and Global Peace

Busan — U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping held an important meeting in Busan, marking their first encounter in six years.
President Trump expressed his pleasure at meeting Xi again, emphasizing his desire for long-term, stable relations between the United States and China. He noted that both countries have already agreed on several key matters and voiced optimism that further agreements would be reached during this meeting. Trump also hinted at the possibility of a new trade deal between the two nations.
President Xi Jinping stated that China and the United States should work as friends and engage in open dialogue on mutual concerns. He mentioned that both sides’ trade teams have already reached consensus on several fundamental points and called for creating a favorable environment for mutual growth.

Xi praised President Trump’s role in the recent Gaza ceasefire and said China continues to support peace negotiations in other global disputes. He added that differences between the two powers are natural but reaffirmed China’s willingness to cooperate with the U.S. to strengthen bilateral relations.
Earlier, President Trump arrived in Busan, where the two leaders exchanged handshakes and posed for photographs. Speaking to reporters before the meeting, Trump said he was confident the talks would be successful, though he described Xi as a “tough negotiator.”
Both leaders are expected to issue a joint statement following their discussions on trade, diplomacy, and regional stability.
