The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is preparing to launch a cutting-edge biometric digital ID system that will eventually replace the traditional Emirates ID card. The new system, powered by facial recognition and artificial intelligence (AI), aims to streamline access to essential services.

According to Khaleej Times, the Federal Authority for Identity has confirmed that the technology has been successfully tested and is expected to be rolled out within the next year.

Once fully implemented, residents will be able to access services such as banking, healthcare, telecommunications, and hotel check-ins without needing to carry a physical ID card.

Despite the progress, concerns remain. Federal National Council member Adnan Al Hammadi pointed out that many institutions still rely on physical ID verification and urged for a faster transition to digital identification.

Currently, many residents are already using the UAEPASS app, which offers secure access to government and private sector services through face recognition, paving the way for a smoother shift to a fully digital identity system.
