Pakistan elected Vice President of UN Counter-Terrorism Committee for 2025

Author Avatar Web Desk | 2 weeks ago
Islamabad: Pakistan has been elected Vice President of the United Nations Security Council’s Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC) for the year 2025.

The CTC oversees and guides global efforts to combat terrorism. Pakistan’s election reflects international recognition of its ongoing diplomatic and counter-terrorism initiatives.

Additionally, Pakistan has assumed the chair of the UN Security Council’s 1988 Sanctions Committee, which monitors sanctions related to individuals and entities associated with the Taliban. These include asset freezes, travel bans, and arms embargoes aimed at ensuring peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Pakistan will also co-chair two informal working groups of the Security Council — one focusing on documentation and procedural issues, and the other on general sanctions matters.
