US Democrats demand clarity on Israel’s nuclear programme

A group of 30 Democratic lawmakers in the United States has called for greater transparency regarding Israel’s alleged nuclear programme, urging the administration to end its long-standing policy of ambiguity on the issue.
According to international reports, the lawmakers sent a letter to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, expressing concern that Washington is supporting Israel in its conflict with Iran while officially refusing to acknowledge Israel’s potential nuclear weapons capabilities.
The letter argued that maintaining a policy of deliberate ambiguity undermines efforts toward nuclear non-proliferation in the Middle East and creates uncertainty about the region’s strategic balance. The lawmakers stressed that such a stance could complicate diplomatic efforts and increase the risk of escalation in an already volatile region.

They further emphasized that the US Congress has a constitutional responsibility to be fully informed about critical issues, including nuclear balance, the risk of conflict escalation, administrative planning, and potential emergency scenarios in the Middle East.
The Democrats urged the State Department to provide comprehensive briefings to Congress, allowing lawmakers to exercise proper oversight and make informed decisions regarding foreign policy and national security.
Analysts say the demand comes at a time of heightened tensions involving Iran, Israel, and the United States, with global concerns growing over nuclear proliferation and regional instability.
So far, the US State Department has not issued an official response to the letter. However, the move has sparked renewed debate over Washington’s Middle East policy and its approach to nuclear transparency.
