US Hints at Trump’s Mediation Role in Kashmir Conflict Following Deadly Attack in Pahalgam

The United States has signalled the possibility of President Donald Trump playing a role as a mediator in the ongoing Kashmir conflict between Pakistan and India, following a deadly attack in Pahalgam that has intensified tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
During a State Department briefing, spokesperson Tammy Bruce emphasised President Trump’s potential to mediate the dispute, stating, “We all recognise that President Trump, in every step he takes, works towards resolving generational differences and ending longstanding conflicts between nations. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that he would want to manage something as complex as the Kashmir issue. He has been the only leader capable of bringing opposing parties to the table for talks that many believed were impossible.”
The remarks come in the wake of heightened diplomatic efforts by Pakistan to counter India’s allegations that Islamabad was responsible for the attack on April 22 in Pahalgam. Pakistan has strongly denied any involvement in the incident, which has further strained relations between the two countries.
Last week, a Pakistani parliamentary delegation, led by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, met with senior US officials, including Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Allison Hooker, to discuss bilateral cooperation and regional stability. During the meeting, US officials reaffirmed their support for the ongoing ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
Tammy Bruce also highlighted that US diplomats, including Under Secretary Hooker, had met with the Pakistani delegation during their visit to Washington. “We continue to support the efforts to maintain the ceasefire, which is crucial for regional peace,” she said, expressing hope that tensions could be eased through diplomatic channels.
