Virat Kohli Becomes Second-Highest Run-Scorer

SYDNEY: Indian cricket star Virat Kohli reached a new milestone on Saturday, surpassing Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara to become the second-highest run-scorer in ODI history.

Kohli achieved the feat during India’s third ODI against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), scoring 74 runs off 81 balls in a commanding run chase that helped India secure a decisive victory.

With this innings, Kohli’s total reached 14,255 runs in 305 ODIs, surpassing Sangakkara’s 14,234 runs in 404 matches. He now trails only Sachin Tendulkar, who tops the list with 18,426 runs in 463 games.

The 36-year-old has maintained an extraordinary career record in ODIs, boasting an average of 57.71, a strike rate of 93.26, along with 51 centuries and 75 half-centuries. Among the top ten ODI run-scorers, he is the only batter with an average above 50.

Additionally, Kohli’s latest achievement also propelled him past Tendulkar’s total for most white-ball runs in international cricket, solidifying his status as one of the modern greats of the sport.
