Islamabad: In a significant development, Pakistan and Hungary have signed an agreement to waive visa requirements for holders of diplomatic passports, aiming to strengthen bilateral ties.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó arrived in Islamabad on a one-day visit and met with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar. The agreement was officially announced during a joint press conference.

“We want to deepen our diplomatic relations, which is why we are removing visa requirements for diplomatic passport holders,” said Szijjártó.

He also announced that Hungary offers 400 scholarships annually to Pakistani students, reflecting growing educational cooperation.

The Hungarian foreign minister expressed satisfaction over the doubling of bilateral trade volume and noted his country’s interest in Pakistan’s food security and water management projects.

Calling Pakistan a reliable partner, Szijjártó said Hungary would support extending Pakistan’s GSP+ status in the European Union beyond 2027.
