WhatsApp to introduce new “Username PIN” feature to block spam messages

Author Avatar Web Desk | 11 months ago

WhatsApp is working on a new “Username PIN” feature aimed at giving users more control over who can message them, helping reduce spam and unwanted messages.

According to reports, when someone tries to message a user via their username for the first time, they will be required to enter the correct PIN. Without it, the message won’t go through — acting as a gatekeeper to block unknown or spam contacts.

This feature will: Prevent unsolicited messages from strangers. Ensure only people who know your username and PIN can contact you. This feature also strengthens user privacy and control. Moreover, reduce interaction with unknown senders

If a user sets a username but skips the PIN, WhatsApp will display a banner in the chat tab, encouraging them to set one for enhanced account security.

Currently, this feature is in the beta testing phase, and since the username feature itself hasn’t been officially released yet, it’s unclear when it will roll out to all users.
