Which Country Produces the Most Tea in the World?

A recent global report reveals that China remains the world’s top tea-producing country in 2024. According to the latest statistics, China produced approximately 2.4 million metric tonnes of tea, accounting for nearly 40% of the global tea output.

China’s tea industry is not only one of the oldest in the world but also among the most diverse, offering a wide range of teas, including green tea, white tea, oolong, and pu-erh. The primary tea-producing regions in China include Yunnan, Zhejiang, and Guangdong, where the favourable climate and fertile soil contribute to high-quality cultivation.

Following China, India holds the position of the second-largest tea producer globally, with an annual output of around 900,000 metric tonnes. In India, tea is not only a popular beverage but also a vital part of the economy and culture.

Other major tea-producing countries include Kenya, Sri Lanka, and Turkey, ranking third, fourth, and fifth, respectively. These countries play a significant role not just in production but also in the international tea trade.
