World Bank Approves $194 Million for Education and Water Projects in Balochistan

ISLAMABAD: The World Bank has approved a funding package of $194 million to support critical education and water infrastructure projects in Balochistan, Pakistan, aimed at improving the quality of life and sustainable development in the province.

According to an official statement, the allocated funds will target two major sectors: education and water management.

Of the total amount, $100 million has been earmarked for the “Access to Quality Education Project”, which aims to enhance educational opportunities and access for underserved communities. The initiative is expected to benefit around 250,000 children across Balochistan.

As part of the project:

5,000 teachers will receive specialised professional training.

400 female students will be granted scholarships to support their education and empower them to become future educators.

Additionally, $94 million will be allocated to a separate initiative aimed at improving water supply systems, particularly for agricultural use, to tackle water scarcity and enhance food security in the region.
