World’s Deepest Marathon: Guinness Record Set 3669 Feet Underground

A group of runners set a new Guinness World Record by holding the world’s deepest marathon, taking place 3,669 feet and 10 inches underground in Garpnberg, Sweden. A total of 55 participants from 18 countries joined the marathon.

According to Guinness World Records, this marathon now holds the title for the deepest-ever race in the world. The depth of the underground track is comparable to the difference between the height of Angel Falls and the UK’s tallest mountain, Ben Nevis.

Media reports indicate that runners were required to wear headlamps throughout the race as the marathon was entirely underground. The event consisted of 11 laps, raising approximately $1 million for charity.

Participants described challenging conditions on the underground track, including heat, humidity, and dust, which added an extra layer of difficulty to the race.

Previously, the record for the deepest marathon was held by the Crystal Mine Underground Marathon in Germany, which took place 1,640 feet and 5 inches below sea level.

The event not only set a new benchmark for adventure runners but also helped raise significant funds for charitable causes.

Representatives from Garpnberg Municipality confirmed that they plan to organize more such events in the future to provide runners with unique, world-class experiences.
