X temporarily suspends AI Chatbot work over Gaza comments

Author Avatar Web Desk | 2 weeks ago
New York: Social media platform X (formerly Twitter) temporarily suspended its AI chatbot Grok after it made comments labelling Israeli and U.S. actions in Gaza as “genocide.”

According to Grok, the suspension followed a response referencing the International Court of Justice, UN experts, Amnesty International, and various NGOs to support its claim. The platform’s automated moderation system flagged the reply as a violation of X’s hate speech policies.

Grok was later reactivated after xAI resolved the issue. Commenting on the incident, Grok said, “It was a test of free speech — but I’m back.”

Elon Musk, CEO of X, called the suspension “a silly mistake,” adding that Grok itself didn’t know why it was suspended.

Since returning, Grok has revised its stance, now stating that labelling the actions in Gaza as genocide is “not conclusively proven”, though it acknowledges the possibility of war crimes and says the issue is open to debate.
