YouTube has now surpassed Netflix and Disney+ in television viewing time. The Google-owned platform has achieved more watch hours than both streaming giants combined. This marks a major shift in the entertainment landscape.

According to Nielsen data, YouTube controls 12.5 per cent of total TV viewing time in the United States. For the first time, streaming platforms have overtaken cable and broadcast television in overall watch time. This reflects changing audience habits worldwide.

While major media companies spend billions creating premium content, YouTube thrives on user-generated videos and podcasts. The platform has turned community-driven creativity into the largest entertainment empire on earth. This approach continues to reshape the industry.

The statistics also show an important trend in viewing habits. Nearly 49 per cent of YouTube videos watched on TV are 11 minutes or longer. This proves that audiences are increasingly choosing extended content over short clips.

Moreover, 60 per cent of YouTube sessions on TV last half an hour or more. Viewers treat the platform like traditional television, but with far more choices. This shift highlights YouTube’s dominance in long-form viewing.

As streaming competition intensifies, YouTube’s success demonstrates the power of user content and accessible entertainment. With audiences spending more time on the platform, YouTube has firmly established itself as the new leader in digital television.
