Islamabad – The Supreme Court of Pakistan has dismissed Zahir Jaffer’s appeal against his death sentence in the high-profile Noor Mukadam murder case, upholding the decisions of both the trial court and the Islamabad High Court.

During the hearing, the defence counsel argued that the prosecution’s case was primarily based on CCTV footage, which, according to him, should not be considered admissible evidence. However, the court noted that the authenticity of the footage had been verified by the Punjab Forensic Science Agency, and no signs of tampering were found.

Justice Ali Baqar Najafi remarked that the tragic murder could potentially have been prevented if the house’s watchman and gardener had intervened in time. The court decided to reduce the sentences of both individuals from 10 years.

Zahir Jaffer brutally murdered Noor Mukadam, the daughter of a former diplomat, in Islamabad in July 2021. The incident sparked national outrage and calls for justice. Zahir was convicted and sentenced to death by the trial court, a verdict later upheld by the Islamabad High Court. His appeal to the Supreme Court marked the final legal challenge to his conviction, which has now been conclusively rejected.
