Zardari Urges Naqvi to Ease Sindh-Punjab Tensions

President Asif Ali Zardari has asked Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to help ease tensions between Sindh and Punjab. The president summoned Naqvi to Karachi for an urgent meeting on the matter. The two leaders met at Bilawal House to discuss the growing political rift. Sources said the president urged Naqvi to mediate and prevent further conflict. The rising tension is worrying for the coalition government.

Meanwhile, PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif has taken a strong position in support of his daughter, CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Nawaz to discuss the ongoing dispute with the People’s Party. He reportedly suggested Maryam should tone down her remarks to reduce tension. However, Nawaz backed Maryam and said her comments reflect Punjab’s voice. He blamed the People’s Party for provoking the situation.

Tensions increased after Sindh’s Information Minister Sharjeel Memon held a harsh press conference. He strongly criticized CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz and blamed PML-N for deepening the divide. Sources say Memon’s press conference came after Nawaz Sharif openly supported his daughter. The back-and-forth statements are now fueling an internal rift between political allies.

Adding to the tension, Punjab’s Information Minister Azma Bukhari defended Maryam’s remarks. She said CM Maryam Nawaz would not apologize to anyone. Bukhari made it clear the Punjab government stands firmly with its chief minister. This firm stance has further raised concerns about worsening relations between the two provinces.

Despite being part of the same federal coalition, PPP and PML-N are now caught in a heated public dispute. President Zardari’s move to involve Mohsin Naqvi shows concern at the top level. The political leadership now faces pressure to defuse the situation before it harms national unity. All eyes are on upcoming statements and whether calm can be restored.
