15 Indian Mango Shipments Destroyed in U.S. Over Documentation Errors

At least 15 shipments of Indian mangoes have been rejected by U.S. authorities at major ports including Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Atlanta due to incomplete or incorrect documentation, resulting in their destruction.
Exporters, unable to bear the high cost of returning the perishable fruit, were left with no option but to discard the mangoes within the United States. The estimated loss stands at approximately $500,000, marking a significant setback during India’s peak mango export season.
The affected consignments had undergone proper irradiation for pest control at a USDA-approved facility in Navi Mumbai on May 8 and 9, fulfilling phytosanitary requirements. However, due to errors in accompanying documentation, the shipments failed to clear U.S. customs.
