ISLAMABAD: The 27th Constitutional Amendment bill will be presented in the Senate on Friday for initial approval. It will then be referred to the Senate Committee for review the same day. According to sources, the committee will discuss the proposed changes on November 8 and 9. The bill is expected to be presented before the full Senate on November 10 for further debate.

The government plans to table the amendment in the National Assembly on November 14. Officials said the ruling coalition will need 224 votes to ensure the bill’s passage. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Peoples Party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) will meet tomorrow to finalize its stance on the amendment. Party leaders are reviewing key clauses and will decide their position after internal consultations.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has tasked National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq with building consensus for the amendment’s smooth passage. The speaker has called a meeting of all parliamentary leaders today at 4:00 PM. The session will focus on gathering political support and finalizing the strategy for legislative approval.

Speaker Ayaz Sadiq is also expected to hold separate discussions with party leaders to address concerns and secure backing. Government sources said that if consensus is not achieved, the ruling coalition will rely on its numerical strength in Parliament. The government aims to ensure a stable and coordinated approach to passing the constitutional bill.

Senator Faisal Vawda has expressed strong support for the amendment, calling it essential for Pakistan’s security and stability. he said the 27th Amendment would pass easily and strengthen national institutions. He added that Parliament holds full authority to legislate when the country’s survival and governance require it.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi addressed the media on Tuesday, providing updates on the 27th constitutional amendment. He stated that only an outline of the amendment has been prepared so far. However, discussions on the amendment will take place in the upcoming sessions of the National Assembly and the Senate.

Kundi expressed hope that the new Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would focus on the province’s development projects. He also recalled the previous Chief Minister’s intention to exert influence over Islamabad. The Governor emphasized the importance of addressing the province’s local issues rather than broader political concerns.
