Metro and Electric Bus Fares Doubled in Islamabad

Islamabad – Public transport has become more expensive for residents of the federal capital as authorities have announced a 100% increase in metro and electric bus fares. The fare for a one-way trip has been raised from PKR 50 to PKR 100, effective May 26, 2025.

According to details, the fare hike applies to all metro and electric buses operating under the Capital Development Authority (CDA). The revised fare of PKR 100 will now be uniformly charged on the Orange Line, Green Line, Blue Line, and electric feeder routes, replacing the previous fare structure, which ranged from PKR 50 to PKR 90, depending on the route.

Officials have justified the fare increase, citing rising operational costs, higher fuel prices, and the need to maintain service quality. They stated that revising the fares was unavoidable under the current financial circumstances.
