Peshawar: The Awami National Party (ANP) has secured a reserved seat for women in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly after winning a coin toss conducted by the Election Commission of Pakistan.
The seat was contested between ANP and PTI Parliamentarians, and following the toss, Shahida Waheed was declared the winning candidate and member of the provincial assembly.
Meanwhile, for the reserved minority seat, no toss was needed. A mutual agreement was reached between Pakistan Muslim League (N) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F), reportedly after consultations involving Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, and party leadership. PML-N voluntarily withdrew, allowing JUI-F’s candidate to claim the seat unopposed.
