Honor Killings Are Un-Islamic, Unlawful: Pakistan Ulema Council Issues Strong Fatwa

The Pakistan Ulema Council has issued a powerful fatwa condemning honor killings, labeling the act as un-Islamic, un-Shariah compliant, and strictly illegal under the law of the land.
In a strongly worded statement, the religious body declared:
“Islam does not justify killing in the name of honor. It is a heinous act that violates both Islamic teachings and the Constitution of Pakistan.”
The council urged law enforcement, particularly the Inspector General of Balochistan, to take immediate and strict action against perpetrators of recent honor killings.
They recommended that:
-
All such cases are to be tried under anti-terrorism laws.
-
Culprits should face swift and exemplary punishment.
-
Trials will be conducted in Anti-Terrorism Courts to ensure speed and seriousness.
“Justice must not only be served but be seen to be served — at the same location and in a manner that deters others,” the statement added.
The Pakistan Ulema Council emphasized that Islam categorically forbids individuals from taking the law into their own hands, even in matters involving family or honor.
“There is no place in Islam for personal revenge, and any such killing is murder in the eyes of Shariah. Those responsible must be held fully accountable under state law.”
