Electricity Prices Likely to Drop by Rs 1.75 Per Unit Across Pakistan

Islamabad – In a welcome development for electricity consumers across the country, power tariffs are expected to decrease by Rs 1.75 per unit, potentially offering much-needed financial relief.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted a petition for Quarterly Tariff Adjustment (QTA) to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA).
The request pertains to the fourth quarter of the fiscal year 2024–25 (April to June). If approved, it could provide a total relief of over Rs 53.39 billion to electricity users. The proposed adjustment would apply not only to government-owned DISCOs but also to K-Electric consumers, ensuring a nationwide impact.
NEPRA is scheduled to hold a public hearing on the CPPA petition on August 4. Officials indicate that if the adjustment is approved for September, October, and November, the per-unit relief could increase further to Rs 2.10 per unit.
While the proposal is under consideration, NEPRA’s final verdict on the tariff reduction will be issued after the hearing. The authority will assess the data and arguments before making a binding decision on the revised electricity rates.
