Rawalpindi — Pakistan’s left-arm spinner Asif Afridi made history in his debut Test match against South Africa by becoming the oldest cricketer to take five wickets on debut, breaking a record that had stood for 92 years.

Asif Afridi achieved this milestone in the ongoing Rawalpindi Test, surpassing England’s Charles Marriott, who had held the record since 1933, when he claimed five wickets on debut at the age of 37 years and 332 days.

At the start of the Rawalpindi Test, Asif Afridi was 38 years and 299 days old, making him the oldest player ever to secure a five-wicket haul in his first Test appearance.

Cricket analysts have hailed Asif’s performance as one of the most remarkable debut achievements in modern Test history, highlighting his perseverance and long journey through Pakistan’s domestic circuit.

The final Test match between Pakistan and South Africa will begin today in Rawalpindi, and Pakistan is ready to whitewash South Africa. The home team is leading the two-match Test series 1-0 and is fully prepared to win the second match and clean sweep the series.

Both teams have completed strong practice sessions before the important match. Pakistan’s batters focused especially on playing sweep and reverse sweep shots to handle the South African spinners better.

South Africa’s captain Aiden Markram said playing in these conditions is always a challenge. He admitted that Pakistan’s spinners Nauman and Sajid will again be tough to face. However, he was happy that Keshav Maharaj is fit and will play the match.
