Shaheen Afridi is set to participate in the T20 World Cup next month after a knee injury interrupted his BBL stint. The Pakistan fast bowler’s recent scans showed the injury is less serious than previous ones that kept him out for months.
Afridi was called back from Australia after hurting his right knee while playing for Brisbane Heat. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) immediately began his rehabilitation to prepare him for the World Cup.
The rehabilitation is progressing well, and Afridi expects to start bowling next week. He is currently doing gym work and improving his batting while the PCB team monitors his recovery.
Afridi’s previous injuries were more severe, including a posterior cruciate ligament injury in 2022 during a Test in Sri Lanka. That injury ruled him out for nearly six months, including the early stages of the T20 World Cup.

During this BBL season, Afridi played four games for Brisbane Heat, taking only two wickets and conceding 11.19 runs per over. He was removed by umpires in his first game for dangerous bowling but remains in good form for Pakistan.
Afridi emphasized that ups and downs are part of sport. He said players must learn from experiences to improve for their country ahead of the World Cup in Sri Lanka.
Pakistan’s squad is currently in Sri Lanka for a white-ball series to prepare for the tournament. Afridi hopes the matches will help players adjust to conditions and perform strongly during the World Cup.
