Punjab Assembly approves traffic fines reduction amendment bill with a clear majority, marking a significant move to ease financial pressure on drivers. The decision reflects the government’s effort to balance enforcement with public relief while maintaining road safety standards.

According to the amendment, fines for certain motorcycle violations will decrease from 2,000 rupees to 1,000 rupees. However, the maximum fine for motorcycles will remain capped at 2,000 rupees. This change aims to provide relief to daily commuters who rely heavily on motorcycles.

Similarly, fines for rickshaw drivers on some violations will drop from 3,000 rupees to 1,000 rupees. Meanwhile, serious violations will carry a fine of 2,000 rupees. For cars and jeeps, certain fines will reduce from 5,000 rupees to 3,000 rupees, while major violations will still face a 5,000-rupee penalty.

However, authorities have made no changes to overspeeding fines for motorcycles, rickshaws, and cars. Finally, the bill will become law after approval from the Punjab governor.
