Malala Yousafzai to attend international conference on girls education in Islamabad

The world’s youngest Nobel laureate, Malala Yousafzai, is set to visit Pakistan as a special guest for a two-day international conference focused on girls’ education. The conference, titled “Girls’ Education in Muslim Communities: Challenges and Opportunities,” will take place in Islamabad on January 11 and 12, 2025.
According to Education Secretary Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, Malala Yousafzai will return to her home country for the event, where global leaders, policymakers, and education experts will gather to discuss ways to improve education for girls across Muslim communities worldwide.
The conference will serve as a platform for high-level discussions on advancing girls’ education, addressing the challenges they face, and exploring opportunities for inclusive educational reforms. Malala Yousafzai, who became an international symbol of girls’ rights after surviving an assassination attempt by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) at the age of 15, is a powerful advocate for the education of girls, particularly in challenging environments.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, will deliver the keynote address at the opening session, where he is expected to reaffirm Pakistan’s commitment to promoting girls’ education and gender equality.
The event will bring together over 150 international dignitaries, including ministers, ambassadors, scholars, and experts from 44 Muslim and friendly countries. Notable organizations such as UNESCO, UNICEF, and the World Bank will also be represented. During the event, discussions will aim to find actionable solutions to the challenges of girls’ education and foster collaborations for sustainable educational reforms.
The conference will conclude with the formal signing of the Islamabad Declaration, a key document that outlines a shared commitment among Muslim nations to empower girls through education and work towards sustainable, inclusive educational reforms.
