Pakistan has informed Iran and the United States that the final date for the second phase of mediation talks will be announced after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif returns from his ongoing foreign visit, according to official sources.

Sources said both sides have already agreed in principle that the same negotiating teams that participated in the first round of talks held in Islamabad will take part in the next phase as well. This continuity is seen as an effort to maintain momentum in the fragile diplomatic process.

The second round of discussions is expected to take place in Islamabad next week, subject to final scheduling following the prime minister’s return. Officials say Pakistan is playing a facilitating role to encourage dialogue between the two countries amid heightened regional tensions.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is currently on a multi-country diplomatic tour of key regional states, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Türkiye. During his visit, he has engaged with leadership in these countries on matters related to regional stability, economic cooperation, and ongoing peace efforts involving Iran and the United States.

Authorities say Pakistan’s mediation efforts are aimed at de-escalating tensions and supporting a structured dialogue process between Washington and Tehran. The first round of talks, held earlier in Islamabad, reportedly focused on reducing hostilities and exploring pathways toward a possible ceasefire framework.

Diplomatic observers note that while the process remains fragile, the continuation of talks with the same delegations indicates cautious progress and mutual willingness to remain engaged.

Officials have not announced the exact agenda for the upcoming round but say it is expected to build on previous discussions, including security concerns, maritime tensions, and broader regional stability.

Pakistan has positioned itself as a facilitator of dialogue, emphasizing peaceful resolution of conflicts and avoiding further escalation in an already volatile regional environment.
